You Live Where?

You’ve seen the posts on Facebook.  People who claim they’re voting yes on the amended zoning ordinance. Some people who say that do qualify to vote on the issue, others are simply blowing smoke.

Check out where the commenters live and you’ll find addresses in Maple City, Lake Leelanau and Cedar – far from Leelanau Township.  Others are downstate or out-of-state. Then there are those who do own property in Leelanau Township but they’re not registered to vote here.  They also don’t have a primary residence exemption on their home, telling us that they aren’t full-time residents.

We can hear the cries now! But I pay taxes here, I should be entitled to an opinion.  Opinions are fine, misrepresentations aren’t.
